Questions relating to information - Item 53 Introductory statements, interactive dialogue and general debate
🇮🇱 Israel, 🇮🇷 Islamic Republic of Iran, 🇱🇧 Lebanon
Thank you, Madam Chair. We would like to respond to the remarks made by the Lebanese delegation. It is important to clarify that the source of the situation in Lebanon is Hezbollah. An internationally designated terror organization operating as a proxy of the Iranian regime. The representative of Libanon forgot to mention that following the a brutal attack of Hamas on thousands of Israeli civilians in southern Israel, Hezbollah started launching missiles and rockets on the northern part of Israel, a unprovoked Causing the evacuation of dozens of thousands of citizens from their villages and houses. Failing to mention who started this is exactly an example of the misinformation that is at the heart of our deliberations today. Hezbollah's actions have led to a widespread destruction, particularly due to its strategy of embedding itself within the civilian population and infrastructure, thus endangering countless lives of Israelis, Lebanese, and UN peacekeepers. Moreover, It is deeply regrettable that Hezbollah not only exploits civilian infrastructure, but also manipulates the concept of non profit organizations and so called journalists for its purpose, just as their brothers to terror Hamas does in Gaza. We call on the international community to see these actions for what they are and to address the ongoing abuse of both civilian structures and international norms by terrorist organizations. Thank you.
I thank you, Madam Chair. My delegation has taken the floor in exercise its right of reply to the allegation and baseless statement delivered by the delegation of the Israeli regime against my country, which was packed with misinformation as different disinformation. Madam Chair, firmly rejecting those accusations which only served to divert attention from the ongoing heinous crimes in occupied Palestinian treaties. I feel obliged to draw the committee's attention to some important facts as follows. The victim mindset is the standard practice of the Israeli regime's officials as they habitually attempt to portray themselves as the innocent. Deception is the card in their deck of action. The dissemination of false and fabricated accusations against countries of the region, in particular the Islamic Republic of Iran, has long been a standard practice of Israel. The exclusive purpose of which is to cancel its crimes and brutality against the innocent Palestinian people. Considering that this regime has been illegally occupying Palestinians for 75 years, it is not surprising that it will try to portray that it does not care about the consequences of this occupation. This regime continues to pretend that the world has just begun since last year, and that the crimes and the genocide were committed solely for their self defense. Therefore, it is essential that the representative of this regime be reminded of the historical facts. During the middle of the 20th century, the Zionist regime attempted to impose another apartheid regime. In addition to this genocide campaign, the regime spread disinformation designed to demonize and dehumanize Palestinians and other nations in the region, as well as legitimize an unprecedented military action taken against them. Among them was the fabrication of facts. As a real example of misinformation and disinformation, the largest hoax they attempted to spread at the United Nations on social media networks is claims that they have a right to serve defense as an occupying regime, which is not recognized by the principle of international law. Madam Chair, giving the Israeli regime's dark record, therefore, attempts by this regime to seek international sympathy and favor are nothing but manipulative propaganda. It is irony that the Israel regime, which, as has been documented by the United Nations, is famous for unlawful acts, apartheid policies, and war crimes, thinks it is place to make false and sinister accusations against others. It has made a habit to deception and claim victimhood in order to cover up its expansionist policy. Madam Chair, to conclude, we believe that as the international community, we cannot and must not condone the use of this esteemed committee for the dissemination of such deficient and misleading information. This type of rhetoric ties a disservice to the principles of the United Nations and undermine the spirit of the fairness and the legitimacy that sounds guide our discussion. I thank you, Madam Chair.
Thank you, Madam Chair. Madam Chair, yet again we have heard another attempt from Israel to justify their war crimes against our people and against our civilians, against our journalists. Yet again, we have heard in this room another attempt to divert the attention of the present delegate from its ongoing atrocities. For them, every civilian, every woman, every child, every health worker, every paramedic, every journalist is a target. Since October 2023, Israel has called has killed more than 3,000 persons in Lebanon. It has injured more than 13,500 people in Lebanon. It has forcibly caused the displacement of more than 1.4 million people in Lebanon. It has deliberately attacked and continues to attack our paramedics, our healthcare centers. Every act they are committing in Lebanon is a blatant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, the Charter of the UN, and Resolution 1701. Madam Chair, international humanitarian law is very clear. It has been in place for 75 years and it should guide us. International humanitarian law says that civilians are not a target. Journalists are not a target. Our journalists, Madam Chair, were sleeping on the night of October the 25th. They were bombed and they were killed in their sleep. As we gather here, two days after the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, we once again call for justice and accountability for these war crimes. I thank you.
